N. Caesar is starting to get big. The most recent pitcher on one of my biggest two year olds just put out a pitcher about the size of a medium merrilliana pitcher.

Hi Sam, That's gorgeous. How do you get a plant that size in two years(besides genetics)?
Cheers,
Joe

Thanks for posting this picture. I have one of these and it seems to be a very hardy and fast growing plant. Please keep us updated on this hybrid which may be one of the great hybrids once mature.

Hi Bob, The Caesars all started out looking pretty much like this ..... as they have progressed they seem to be changing a bit and becoming a little less rounded and the peristome seems to be getting wider ....

I do have a question concerning Caesar and Pompey, forgive me if I post this under the wrong topic. I live in southern Louisiana where during the summer it can reach three digits and the humidity can be moderate to very high. I have both these plants and would like to know if I can have them outdoors during this period? The sun can be scorching hot which I can provide morning direct sun and moderate shade during the heat of the mid day. Would this be o.k.? I do have a greenhouse but it is still in the process of being constructed. I had them indoors under light and humidity where they are doing quite well...its just they are starting to outgrow the indoor area. Any input would be greatly appreciated.

joel143,
Sorry, I missed your post until now.
Three digits is pretty hot. I have grown them "intermediate" and tested them in "highland" conditions but have no experience having grown either plant at temperature above the mid-90's.
I would think that both hybrids should be able to handle the high temperatures but would be concerned, particularly since you have been growing them indoors under lights, about direct exposure under those conditions. A quick transition from artificial lights to bright sun could be fatal if you are not careful.
If, you must grow them outdoors until you finish your greenhouse then, I would recommend that you provide them plenty of shade and lots of water at first. After they have had some time ( ... weeks) to adjust to higher light levels you can, if you choose, transition them, a little at a time, to more direct sun.

Leilani,
Thanks for your reply. Its been about two weeks now since I've had them outside with the temps in the 90's and the heat index in the three digits. I've given them partial shade from the midday sun and keep them pretty moist along with the surrounding area to keep the humidity up. Actually I see no ill affect so far and they seem to be happy and actually getting a pretty light reddish tent to the leaves. My other neps that I have that are crossed with Truncata I have also taken them and put them out in the same area and they also are doing quite well with no ill affects. I have some staghorn ferns in the same area and I think those are more sensitive so I take my qeue from them as far as not enough humidity and too much sun for now. All in all Im quite pleased with them and hope they continue to grow. They are only about 15inches across but hope to see them as beautiful as yours.

Hey, O have a question, are N. x caesar for sale, or not, because they look like amazing plants? If they are, do you ship them or are they only available in the USA? (A price is also asked please?)
