As we begin a new year I thought I would let people know what to expect from Leilani Hapu'u Nepenthes Nursery in the coming year ......
Expansion of facilities:
I am currently working on the addition of two new facilities. First, I am clearing ground in preparation for the addition of a new shadehouse at the main nursery. I have thousands and thousands of new hybrids post germination and am in serious need of more space to accommodate them as they mature to sale-able size. Second, I have a smaller greenhouse going up at a highland location here on the island.
Sales:
LHNN hybrids:
I am currently selling plants wholesale to distributors in the USA. I expect to add several new distributors in the coming months. Distributors are selling LHNN hybrids and I do not intend to sell these retail myself as this would undercut the potential sales of these distributors. 2009 will see reduced wholesale pricing and hopefully this will result in increased volume and lower prices to retail consumers.
I am once again propagating numerous plants by way of cuttings from collection specimens. My focus has turned away from the simple, single cut, specimens produced in the past and I am now focusing on the production of larger, multiple-cut, specimens. These will not be available through distributors but will find their way into the market via EBay and special sales.
1. EBay
In the past I have sold rooted cutting of collection plants on EBay. I stopped doing this when the demands of packing and shipping individual orders began to take up too much of my time. In 2009 you can expect to see the resumption of the Ebay sales of rooted cuttings and over-sized plants from LHNN. These sales will be conducted by my son so that he will be able to offset some of the costs of his college education (.... gas and food money).
2. Retail sales
I may, in 2009, conduct a few retail sales in order to clear excess inventory. These "Sale Plants" will consist primarily of rooted cuttings and over-sized specimens from collection plants but may also include species from seed. The details of just how these sales will be conducted are not yet fixed but may include special offering to flora nepenthaceae members.
3. International sales
I have plans to be certified for international export in 2009 but this will probably not happen until scheduled facility expansions are complete. My apologies to those waiting for this to happen.
flora nepenthaceae
I have fallen somewhat behind on what was a very ambitious schedule for the further development of this website but 2009 will see some major additions. Among these additions will be .....
The further refinement and development of the INGR and its interface.
Some use of the "LHNN" category for special sales to forum members.
A "Expedition" sponsorship program. This may include the sales of specific products and plants with profits directed toward supporting new field expeditions and reports.
