If you happen to be on the Big Island next week you can catch us at the 58th Annual Hilo Orchid Show on August 6, 7, and 8. We will have a small display and sales booth.

This is the one time each year where I actually get out and try to sell plants to the general public. Hilo is not a big place and, although this is the biggest such event on the island, the show probably sees far less people than at a large flea market on the mainland. Still, it is our chance to share locally and we can sometimes make a few bucks. Although not mandatory a display is expected. Having done this a few years in a row I can tell you that I am never happy with the display. The venue is a large tennis stadium and no matter what you do the displays always look too compartmentalized to me. I though I would try something fun this year and put a time-lapse camera in the back of the display to record peoples reactions as they visit.

Nice display, Sam. The Caesars out in front are spectacular -- if that doesn't draw people in, then they need eye exams

That's a lot of work, I hope it was fun and more people interested (getting bitten) from this.

How was the attendance at the Hilo show? I used to help with the Honolulu Orchid Society, and I heard the attendance at the orchid shows in general has been down.
