N. spathulata Danser (1935)
Sumatra; Moss Forest, Highland (2000 m)
Synonyms: dempoensis Hopkins et al., singalana Tammin & Hotta
Description: from A. Marshall (U.C.B.).
Stems: climbing, oval to elliptical, 9mm thick, internodes 58 to 60 mm long.
Leaves: sessile to slightly petiolate; spathulate to lanceolate, 17 cm x 6 cm to 24 1/2 cm x 9 cm, apex acuminate, base obtuse, gradually tapering to the base, clasping the stem, decurrent to 1/3 of the length of the internode; midrib pronounced below, margin entire; longitudinal veins 3 to 4 on each side located in the outer half of the lamina, pennate nerves few to absent, running obliquely to the margin.
Lower Pitchers: ovate in the lower portion, tubulose in the upper part, hipped, 5 1/4 cm x 2 cm, 1 cm wide in the upper part; with 2 fimbriate wings, 3 mm wide; mouth oblique, broadly ovate, 8 mm x 10 mm; peristome cylindrical to flattened, narrow in front expanding towards the rear, 2.5 - 3 mm wide; lid elliptical to orbicular, base reniform, apex rounded, 12 mm x 10.2 mm, sparsely glandular with no appendages present; spur simple, minute to .5 mm long.
Upper Pitchers: cylindrical to infundibulate, sometimes ovate in the lower part, gradually originating from the hanging tendril, hipped, 2 prominent ribs present, sometimes slightly fimbriate, 8 cm x 2 1/2 cm; mouth oblique, ovate in shape 16 mm x 8 mm; peristome cylindrical to flattened towards the rear 2 - 5 mm wide, lid ovate, base abrupt, apex rounded, appendages none, glandular; spur branched to 3 mm.
Inflorescence: a raceme, 16 1/2 cm to 19 cm long; pedicels 14 to 19 cm long, 2- to 16- flowers each, bracts present
Indumentum: on traps and tendrils only, white, minute to .5 mm long
Color: some reddish mottling on inside of traps, slight dark rusty appearance to area directly under and alongside the peristome on trap, but not on the peristome, otherwise green.
