Hey everyone! Ive been growing Nepenthes for about four years now and my collection has increased dramatically. I have experience with growing all but 2 genres of carnivorous plants. Nepenthes have always been my favorite and the one that tops them all for me would probably be N. burbidgea or clipeata, I guess Im a sucker for the cream pitchers with red spots plants My favorite nep I have right now would probably be my N. tentaculata or my N. sanguinea orange that I've been growing since Dec. 06.Im 17 years old, a junior in highschool and I live in Louisville, KY. I look forward to learning more of the taxanomical aspects of Nepenthes. Alex

I'm pretty jealous, the only other time until 2003/4 I had access to Nepenthes was in 1997 in Okinawa, Japan but never bought any, boy do I wish I had now. Glad to see ya Alex, how's everything growing.

My son's friends show more interest in my plants than he does. Maybe it's one of those teen age rebillion things and he'll come around later ... but I doubt it. He's not that rebellious and has never had an interest in any plants.

The perpetuation of nepenthes lies in our future generations. From what I've seen from various younger growers, it appears that the future for nepenthes is a safe and secure one. I believe many feel very strong about conservation and at the same time, also feel compelled to be able to maintain what species and hybrids we have in captivity close to their hearts. It is interesting to see how these younger growers obtain and manifest themselves in this very expensive and time consuming "hobby." A formal welcome to every young grower soon to become a masterful grower in time.

Michael,
why do you think this hobby is expensive? I believe a good starter kit for people in temperate zones can be had for as little as fifty bucks US. Sure, the light fixtures and the timer cost some money, but you can get the tank for free, a few starter neps for a tenner or two, and what else do you really need? If you want a greenhouse, then you're of course talking money, but I still think this hobby is WAY cheaper than keeping fish....
