Unfortunately, I didn't get any pics at the Saturday-night Society Dinner, or the after-party, or the after-after-party (drinkin with the other out-of-towners in the motel parking lot?!) I hope you got your share of the sake, Matt. Thanks for the pictures, and thanks for not taking any shots of Rich Sivertsen and me hobbling across the street after dinner like a couple of decrepit old Alzheimers patients. I appreciate that!

Hey Matt, Looks like you fellows had a great time. I do believe this plant is straight N. spectabilis: And this one is not a hybrid... It's Nepenthes alata, the real one! <Tongue in cheek > Does anyone know what this species looks like? Seriously, is this really a hybrid? It does look like N. alata to me, except for that one dried lid on the left...

Yupper Dave! and the very same one you have too! - a female plant at that as well. Good call! I just wish that there were some more representative specimens of the ones that Longwood Gardens used to call "N. stenophylla" which is also a female N. alata and also a highland species; (this particular one was once called "N. burkei") because of its flat lids, while the other has vaulted lids, and hey Walt, I'm pretty happy too that no incriminating photographs were displayed of either you or me, (my avatar is not too far from the truth)! - Rich

Yeah, I have all three of Longwood's "mimics". Two are the same species -- N. alata. I have to get some more photos together for a new thread.

Dear Matt, I'm almost certain this is Utricularia purpurea. Joel's Copelandii Some kinda Tentaculata hybrid Nooo!!!! Just kidding Actually, this highlights continuing confusion about N. alata. Both of these plants have been artificially combined with N. alata. However, at least the latter plant is from Luzon and it is not a N. tentaculata hybrid. It is currently one of the three species still lumped into what we call "N. alata". It could actually be the "real" N. alata, but there isn't any to tell for sure right now due to lost/missing records. N. copelandii also used to be lumped into N. alata, but anyone who takes a few moments to compare it to any of the other two or three species (which are collectively more similar to each other) realizes they are different taxa. This is the same plant in the link below, right? www.rci.rutgers.edu/~dpevans/Nepenthes/N_alata.htm

I can only be there for one of the two days. I was hoping to arrange a time for the people from this board to hang out, if everyone's game.
