Congrats on the flowering of your Clone 2, Leilani.
With Clone 3 being a male, now we just have to wait and see what Clone U is going to reveal itself as.

I admit, I had no idea what I would find with a topic alled "Fuzzy Little Balls" above a topic called "The Biggun," but it was a pleasant surprise! Congrats, Sam!

Clones of clipeatas. Does anyone feel that there really is more than a single clone of clipeata (AW's clones) out there? Of growing all the clones, including the missing clone, I do not see any differences than it being just near difficult to grow.
It would be a conspiracy theory, but I am always believing that all the clones are the exact same ONE. How else would I be able to sell them at three to four at a crack at each offering.

rainforest .....
I only grow clone 2 and clone U. The clone 2 would seem to be a more vigorous grower.
jgriffin....
No. What you see is just a top dressing.

I have no reason to doubt that the AW N. clipeata clones are actually different from one another. I have similarly aged Clone 2 and Clone 3 clipeata in my collection.
I also have the clone U, but that was just recently acquired, so I'll have to wait on that one. But I have heard that the clone U is slower growing than Clone 2.
And between my clone 2 and clone 3, it is the clone 3 that is the more vigorous grower. When I first got them, the clone three was a small plant, with two offset shoots growing out from the main plant. Because of this situation with the clone 3, the clone 2 plant was able to grow quite a bit larger than the clone 3.
Once I separated the offsets from the main clone 3 plant, the main plant has caught up to and exceeded the clone 2 in size. And the two offsets of the clone 3 are both rooted and very quickly gaining in size to the clone 2 as well.
Also, I find that my clone 2 clipeata has leaf tips that curl under, while the clone 3 has leaves tips that stay in the same plane as the rest of the leaf.
The AW clipeata clone 1 was lost in tc, but there are still some plants of it out there in collections, but I have never seen pictures of that clone myself.

So what clipeata hybrids did you make?
I think truncata x clipeata would be a nice cross. maybe N. sibuyanensis x clipeata N. maxima x clipeata N. merrilliana x clipeata N. veitchii x clipeata N. ....
What do you guys think about the perfect clipeata cross?
Well until we have a known female ready to accept the pollen. M

The perfect cross would be clipeata x clipeata, but lowii x clipeata would be nice too
