Hi all, I stumbled on this site while looking for more information on caring for Nepenthes. There's a lot of great info here and I look forward to learning as much as I can. I'm in LA and, near as I can tell, I've got decent local temps for growing highland and intermediate plants on my balcony. The humidity is another question...
Anyway, hi and hello!

Welcome, you certainly can grow plants on your balcony. Trouble times are when the Santa Ana winds are blowing. Just make sure they are well watered and anything you can do to bring up the humidity will definitely help.

Thanks srduggins. Would placing a container of water under the plants (not touching the bottom of the pots) increase the humidity enough?

Not really, but every little bit helps.
I used plant pot saucers (as big as I could get from home depot) and filled them with pebbles and water so the pots would not be in the water. Now I just use well drained media(no lfs) and let the pots sit in the water allowing it to dry out between waterings.
With direct sunlight, and a little time your plants will be tough enough to survive the Santa Anas.
Protection from the wind really helps too.
