Interestingly, the second veitchii hybrid has very truncated leaves, even though there is no truncata in its parentage...Though all three veitchii hybrids are very nice, I really like the third one -- it looks like a completely pink-bodied veitchii.

mikuláš .... In the third picture I was trying, rather unsuccessfully, to capture the color gradient along the peristome as this one ages. Here is a picture of the younger pitcher on this plant.

What are the grex of the Veitchii hybrids shown? Maybe the first = Tiveyi second = [(maxima x veitchii) x (thorelii x veitchii)] third = [((mixta x maxima) x veitchii) x (northiana x veitchii)]

Lovin' this recent update here - not too often do we get to see upper expressions of both species of N. ephippiata and N. lowii in the same posting. Did you ever try the lid exudate on either your lowii or ephippiata? If so, what did it taste like? dvg

I second dvg -- the lowii & ephippiata look great, to say nothing of the jacquelineae. How big is the vine on the jacq?
And it's good to see that Loihi is still around, too.

dvg .... I have tasted it (sweet) but I can't say I'm proud of the fact. mikuláš .... "Yes", Loihi is still around but only the one specimen. I really like the plant. The jac got to about 5-6' (pretty green uppers) but began to look too lanky so I cut it up. The pitcher pictured is from the new basal growth.

dvg .... I have tasted it (sweet) but I can't say I'm proud of the fact. Haha! Good to see that you're still willing to experiment a little. I guess it could have tasted worse. Have to admit that I've tried the dripping nectar on one of my Neps -just had to see what all of the fuss was about with all those fruit flies swarming around it. dvg
