Recent activity in the nursery has been making me see new lights on the "invasive" title to plants here.
First a fern that planted itself with my Miranda that is at very least indigenous, a few moss varieties as well as ferns in the seed chambers that I've found growing on the ridge lines. And animal activity; now the first are the non native "poison arrow" frogs from Central America their population has boomed in my yard in recent years (though the upper neighbors lot which was full of plants: sugar cane, lychee, areca palms to name a few -had been developed after he passed away 5-6 years ago). But new comers such as the native carnivorous snail I have found perusing on a regular basis while only finding one once while hiking on a nearby trail. Also I have found a few more flies of unknown origin a few I'm almost certain are the picture wing flies native to the isles and prey of the eluding carnivorous caterpillar. And most fascinating a very new to me and the yard is a snail that I've yet to identify. This snail is special being I found it in pending doom on the peristome of a maxima, while taking macro photos a few nights ago (before the termites swarmed and I caught a batch freeze killed and fed to the plants). What makes it so special is that when I tapped it to entice it into the pitcher it's survival instinct kicked in and it "kicked" off the peristome with it's foot and leapt off into the media off a larger nep's pot. I had to up root the slipper orchid growing with the larger nep to catch it to photograph it and see it do it again. I believe it to is a native and the carnivorous snail is it's main predator.
pics to be posted as soon as I can make a disk to transfer and post.
