Ha...ha.. thanks I am flattered Michael, that is actually a cross of mirabilis with (ventricosa x truncata) made by Lam_wn. I got the seedling from him, a very nice one indeed, quick growing and the pitcher coloration is so dark with reddish peristome that turns darker red after several days.

If you hadn't said crossed with ventricosa x truncata I would have never guessed it. Looks like a pure mirabilis to me. Nice coloring in the peristome. Wings are a bonus too!
Show us the whole plant when you have a chance. The long tendril makes this plant look more mirabilis to me.

Hi Wijaya, wow, thats a nice one! When i first saw the pic i thought it was mirabilis x xcoccinea (i have a few with this colouration, now flowering) The x (ventricosa x truncata) are similarly coloured, but mostly reds, with some greens. Yours is very dark! and so far none turned out so squat looking. I'll try to get some pics later. Glad you like it thanks! Lam

Hi Ed, here are its siblings: the last one is interesting in its lack of wings and angled form the mirabilis mom has made me many hybrids. And is dominant in both form and colour and ease of growth, hence the similarity in nearly all of them While i do feel guilty producing so many low quality hybrids, they do have their merit with both colour and vigour. thanks

@lam: thanks for the pictures, really seeds grown are full of surprises, with every other seeds creating different pitcher colorations and shapes. C'mon man, that u called low quality? Those are amazing, keep the crossing coming. BTW, any upper yet? Surely will be nice if the upper showing more of truncata or ventricosa like pitcher. ;D Ed

Ed .. Beautiful color on that one. I love the shine on the dark peristome. Lamwn .. The finch, the bluebird and the swallow are no less beautiful for not being an eagle. Your plants will live on and contribute their genes to future generations. This grex looks well established and it has already made it's way into collections other than your own. However, I am a little hesitant to register this because it was made with pollen from an oversea grower whom i have now lost contact with. And the worst part which makes me feel guilty is that the cross looked like it failed, so i didnt live up to my end of the deal by sending seed back. But by some miracle I had germinations and raised a handful of nice plants from it later. Another reason of course would be that it is very daunting for any one to register hybrids alongside yours and EP's! ;D thanks!

Michael: here are the leaf picture of the plant, hope it is clear enough, can you see any characteristic of the three parents on it? Thanks, Ed

Ed, Your plants are growing very well. It is a good sign when you see plants still retaining their seedling younger leaves at the base. The leaves don't appear mirabilis like, but more so the other parent. Would be interested in seeing how these turn out with age.

Michael: thanks for the nice comments, indeed I am as excited on knowing how this one will turn out when mature. As with the growth rate of mirabilis, it will be very soon. Ed
