Well... that cat isn't much weirder than my wife's hairless dumbo rats. And they're kind of cute, really. As for ugly Nepenthes, I don't go in for anything plain green (except inermis). reinwardtiana, for example, just leaves me cold. Yeah, I know, sometimes it isn't all green, but most of the ones I've seen for sale are. So I guess shape is important to me, since aristolochioides is colored a lot like a lot of other Nepenthes, but has that crazy mouth position and inermis is the only all green species I like.

Sam,
If you can find one of those cats, he might be just the thing to deal with the mongooses, only the strategy would no longer be to fight them, but rather to scare them off. I'm just glad you already have a relatively normal cat named after me. I'd hate to think of that wretched thing slinking around the nursery answering to "Walter".
Aha! I got it!. You could name him after that USDA inspector in Los Angeles.

If that cat is genuine and someone has actually bred that thing, they need shooting. That is possibly the most hidious thing I have ever seen.

I guess it's all about perspective. I find none of the Nepenthes ugly, but that cat is positively Lovecraftian. BRRRRRRRRRRRRR!!!!!!!!!!!!

So you understand, I would probably give that ugly cat a home and brag about it. "It was Michael Jackson's cat." ;D ;D More ugly Nepenthes ...... With the twisted dissymmetry of the mouth and a lid dripping mucilage N. lowii makes some disturbingly ugly pitchers ..... Or, how about N. mirabilis, winged? Twisted and convoluted it seems, with all its twists and turns. confused and deformed.

That poor lowii looks like it is in extreme agony and immediately conjured up an image of the type of emotional torment captured in Edvard Munch's 'The Scream'.

N. ventricosa x campanulata (a very old MT hybrid that I don't have the heart to throw out) *plain green *almost cylindrical (spelled "not shapely") *lowers and uppers are almost identical *boring peristome

Hi Cindy,
I did not know MT had made this cross. Do you know any more about it? A number?

10 minutes ago I just finished pollinating my campanulata with BE's ventricosa red. We'll see in a few years how much different (or not) the reverse of 'Menehune' will be!

OMG I hope it makes it to the states because I *love* campanulata female crosses! I just got a Leilani Menehune, which isn't colored up at all yet, but I'm sure with some intense San Diego sun I can change that ;D Now one that *is* ugly is splendiana X (rokko X stenophylla) - why is its mouth so small? I reaaallly hope it grows out of this trait:
