i just purchased this one from a private grower. Its Ep's original cross. I also have the two new releases, wide and squat...they grow slow for me but they do grow nice and every leaf is bigger.

That is fantastic. I am glad I made this hybrid an addition to my EP buy list. I think almost everything with lowii in it is a looker. ooh...that crazy hair and tough pitchers of his.

Vividrays84, it's kind of amazing how you continue to trot out beauty after beauty from your stable of thoroughbreds there.
That's a lot of mouths to feed...
...do you feed your Neps, either foliar feed them, add ferts to their media, supplement their pitchers with prey...
...or do you just leave them to fend for themselves?

I'm not sure there is a foolproof way to fertilize Nepenthes, because if there was, all of us fools would be doing it. But here are a couple of suggestions for you. If you are a coffee drinker, you could pour some cooled down leftover coffee fluid through a pot and watch to see how the plant responds....but if you don't drink coffee don't bother with the trouble of brewing up coffee just for your plants. The plus about coffee, is that it will not kill your plants, but it will not be as effective as a well designed, balanced fertilizer. You might also consider contacting Rainforest on this forum. He is a strong proponent of fertilizing, and has had impressive results with his fertilizing regimen. And Rainforest convinced Leilani to try fertilizing his plants. Once Leilani saw the results gained from an active fertilizing program, he too is now a convert of fertilizing Neps. If you decide to try it out on your own, choose a well balanced fertilizer complete with trace minerals, not just N-P-K. I'd recommend going with 1/8 strength of the manufacturer's recommendation, just to be safe...and that will definitely put you on the safe side. Maybe in the beginning, choose just one expendable plant to experiment on, to see how it responds. And then if you want, you can gradually increase the concentration in small increments, and note how your plants is doing. Go slow, be patient, keep notes and you will find what your plants respond to best. dvg

Hey Vividrays, From the pics, it looks like you grow in a in closed green house similar to me. I tried ferts a wile back at 1/4 strength. I did 2 treatments 4 weeks apart, because of the high humidity I got a bad case of slime algae on top of all the media of the pots I treated. Something about it being in a closed green house, even though I have good ventilation. It seems out door growers don't have this problem. The plants did get a boost from it, but I had to repot a few plants. Trust me, I would rather treat the plants with ferts than trying to put crickets in all the pitchers. Just wanted to share my experience.
P.S. Awesome new N. Lowii x truncata

Vividrays, That's the same stuff I used. I would definitely use 1/8 strength like Dvg said, and wash through the pot really well after 24 hours. I went back to crickets a year ago, because I hate repoting plants It really doesn't mater where plants get nutrients from as long as they get it
