A number of years ago I had opportunity to make a species cross of N. merrilliana with a fellow grower from Japan. The amount of pollen I received was so small that I was surprised to get germination at all. In all, I ended up with only about a half-dozen or so plants. Here are two young N. merrilliana pitchers from a couple of different plants ..... Also resultant from this grex were a couple of odd-balls. I'm not completely sure if this plant is the result of contamination or recessed genes in one of the N. merrilliana parents but it pretty sweet ......
