N. klossii Ridley (1916) New Guinea; Moss Forest, Grassland, Highland (1000 - 2000 m) Description: DANSER 317, JEBB 26
Stems: triangular, axillary buds prominent, to 1 cm thick. Leaves: petiolate, decurrent to halfway on internode, coriaceous; lamina lanceolate to oblong- lanceolate: 6 cm x 18 cm to 9 cm x 25 cm; apex obtuse; base obtuse; veins: 2 +, located in the outer 1/3 - 1/4 of lamina, pennate nerves obscured, midrib ribbed above. Lower Pitchers: UNKNOWN Upper Pitchers: abruptly originating from tendril, infundibulate in lower part, cylindrical above, slightly hipped: to 20 cm x 5 cm; 2 ribs present; mouth oblique to vertical, forward; peristome curved, to .3- 1.5 cm wide; lid suborbicular, to 5 cm, apex rounded, base cordate, lid with 2 appendages on ventral side, larger appendage a laterally flattened crest near the junction and recurved towards pitcher; spur simple, attenuate, ascending about 2 cm from lid. Inflorescence: a raceme, to 18 cm; pedicels 2 flowered, 2 cm long. Indumentum: dense on growing parts, underside of leaf blade, above and below midrib, upper surface of lid, spur and inflorescence. Color: lid deep purple, remainder probably reddish. Distinguishing Features: The forward directed mouth distinguishes N. klossii from the closely related N. maxima.
