Synonyms: boschiana Miq., boschiana v. sumatrana Miq., maxima v. sumatrana Becc., spinosa T. & Hotta, sumatrana (Miq)G.Beck.
Description: DANSER 387, JEBB 43
Stems: climbing; cylindrical in the lower part, becoming triangular, to 1.3 cm thick.
Leaves: petiolate, canaliculate, winged, decurrent, running down the stem; lamina lanceolate, coriaceous: 17 cm x 5 cm to 35 cm x 7 cm; apex acute; base attenuate; veins: 3- 7, located in the outer 2/3 of lamina, pennate nerves numerous reticulate in outer part.
Lower Pitchers: urceolate- globose, small: 5 cm x 4 cm to 6 cm x 4 cm; 2 fimbriate wings, to 1 cm; peristome rounded, to 1.5 cm wide; lid orbicular, to 8 cm, apex rounded, base cordate, glandular; spur simple, to 0.5 cm.
Upper Pitchers: infundibulate below, widest at 3/4 length and narrow towards mouth, strongly curved: 15 cm x 5 cm to 23 cm x 8 cm; 2 ribs present, with wings here and there, to 1 cm wide; mouth horizontal in front, elevated to lid; peristome rounded, to 0.9 cm wide; lid orbicular, to 8 cm, apex rounded, base cordate, lid obtusely keeled by basal fold, glandular, glands larger towards basal part of midrib; spur simple, narrow and flat, inserted close to lid, to .5- 1 cm.
Inflorescence: a dense raceme, to 40 cm; pedicels 2 flowered, 2.5 cm long.
Indumentum: generally sparse, but dense beneath blade margin.
Color: pitchers red
