Hi Guys, Thanks for the feedback. Michael, Thanks for the information Michael. You are absolutely right. I need to truly make some modifications to the cultivation conditions for my rajah. So would you suggest that I break apart my tree fern pot and add chunks of it to the media as a top dressing? Also can you please suggest a happy medium for N. rajah? I have been so far using LFS/charcoal/bark. From my experience, not all plants seem to like charcoal. How do I add nutrients that reflect the serperntine nature of its media in the wild. Can I add some granite chips? Find them at a hardware store? lol! or do you get them online for horticulture purposes? Also is there any way to buy that tree fern mulch? I am really not too happy with the growth rate of my neps right now. I need to fix something. They clearly don't like my new tanks yet. farm5.static.flickr.com/4078/4917998026_5cc0d7c91a_b.jpg@noa Noa, Do you clean the plants roots by trying to remove as much of the old media as you can? I have tried doing it and by mistake ripping off a lot of roots and for big plants this seems to be lethal. I have found it out the hard way as I have potentially lost precious plants like a nice hamata and all those mentioned before. How do you guys repot? Do you try to remove as much of the old media from the roots as you can? Or do you dunk it in a new pot with new media without removing all the old media? thanks guys. I appreciate the advice. I hope I can grow my neps like yours someday. Varun

Yeah man!! i really should. It does suck when such precious plants go down. BTW...lol...I have a bad habit of stealing ppl's threads...but...lol...anyone here use tree fern pots? I got a couple from US just this week, was surprised to find the actual potting area to be really small. How hard is to take a plant out of these pots? I mean it will be a nightmare to remove those rootsfrom the tree fern fiber.

Conditions are stale. It is within a 3' tall, 2' wide tank. Temps are currently pretty low (65F day and 50F at night). I think you are right, they hate being moved and repotted. I have learnt this the hard way as I think I am loosing a wonderful 8" hamata specimen given to me by a friend. I repotted it into a spare pot to get more space, but accidentally lost all the roots which seemed to only form in the top dressing live sphagnum layer. As a result, the plant is now almost hopelessly stalled for the past 5-6 months. Same with the rajah. Clearly I have NO SKILLS with repotting and should stop doing it. lol! And damn!! I also had to repot my 7" villosa. Thats stalled too.

Haha Noa!! Lol! I was just admiring your amazing plant leaf-tip to leaf-tip and realized another petiolate leaf nearby. On the subject of N. rajah cultivation... Its sort of ironic that this plant has been my ultimate prize/favourite nepenthes species and heck, it even persuaded me to start with nepenthes collections. Sadly, they just don't seem to do well with me. The first did great for a while, but disturbance and multiple repottings stressed it too much and I threw it away in frustration. The second was doing amazing forthe longest time until again I repotted from a communal pot to its own pot and thats it, its sulking as well. Any tips you guys have for the typical BE clones? I have it in a bark/LFS/charcoal mix.

Awsome N. rajah Noah. I see there is another guy peeking around the corner over there. Congratulations and I hope you have both a male and female and hopefully, you can provide us with the first species seed of N. rajah in cultivation.

Wow Sam!! How much does it cost you to buy that much water? I have resumed buying grocery store water as it seems that the water from my parents RO system has too many minerals in it (lot of algae slime issues). It costs me roughly 20$ a month.
My question is....do you ever take a vacation then? I mean what would you do if you want to go away somewhere? Does your caretaker "care" to water every single of your thousands of plants? I tell ya...after last december's vacation issue, and the fact that I am going away again for the same period of time this december, I will be trying to seal up as much as I can to prevent evaporation.
Very fair with regard to the automatic misters Sam. I dried a hamata to a dry crisp in a week when I didn't bother much with plants as I was really busy with school. The plant is punishing me for it till now and just cannot seem to recover the root growth to support itself. Well...lesson learnt! So much for my brag rights that I didn't kill any neps by faulty practices.

Hey Sam,
I wonder....you got this forest full of like maybe a thousand pots or so of nepenthes. How do you water them all? I mean do you literally have to water everyday for hours to keep them all watered that well to get moss that grows like nice green balls? I am soo stunned at the nice plants you have...and especially the dressing on your pots. Pure clean...green live moss!!
I assume any rainfall will help...but how freqent is rain in your area?
cheers,
Varun
