N. truncata has come a long way. From a few tc known clones of green and orange, we now have selected strains showing colors in vivid striped, red and unusual shades. Here is such a clone with orange and red stripes. This is an Exotica Plant seedling. Many people have remarked that these unusual colored forms are hybrids but in reality they are not. It is difficult to understand that the natural ability of nepenthes is to be always evolving and improving itself. I believe all species are capable of developing a variety of looks and still be true. Giant forms are also being developed through selective breeding. This large pitcher is from a leaf just barely four inches long. This is a truncata from Exotica's seedling selection. Another of Exotica's seedlings of a pure-bred truncata. M

Here is a second generation N. truncata Exotica. While the reds are emphasized more in this generation, many that were paler orange (in the original seed lot) tends to be more orange-bronze in this generation. Selecting specific color forms of this species and crossing them together, one could get a wide range of breeding lines with specific traits and colors. M
