This thread will be a focus on some of the hybrids currently being worked on and with emphasis on getting to know the results from which these could produce over time. This is N. spectabilis x (lowii x ventricosa). I feel this cross will be a soughtafter hybrid that combines two species with impeccable coloration especially the striped peristome. This would be a fantasy cross with all the best of everything. You would expect a lot of variation since spectabilis is mostly a dark speckled pitcher and the lowii x ventricosa being very dominant lowii in appearance. I would also look out for a pitcher with a vaulted lid, thick rigidity-substance, and somewhat vine-like spectabilis in growth. A trimmed, clustering plant will be a beautiful one with pitchers coming out everywhere. I would suggest growing this plant in bright light so that the leaves and pitchers become as red-maroon as possible and keep them compact. From observing other hybrids with ventricosa as a complex hybrid parent, the resulting plant should be a vigorous one with pitchers produced easily and abundantly throughout the plant. The mix should also provide some of the most varied of all pitchers in any modern nepenthes hybrid. Michael

Here is N. spectabilis x (lowii x ventricosa) A current photo of this hybrid. Note that the deeper red tones of the lowii x ventricosa is surfacing on a spectabilis pitcher. M
