Several nomenclature conventions are adopted by this website in order to facilitate alphabetization of the species and hybrid boards.
HYBRID NAMES
N. x Rokko = N. rokko
EXPRESSIONS OF DERIVATION:
The INGR convention is to list the female plant first in all expressions of derivation. In general, this website does also.
With Nat. hybrids it is not often certain which of the two species involved was the female and which was the male parent.
N. x Ventrata would be listed as N. ventrata. The derivation would be expressed as "N. ventricosa x`alata" or "N. alata x`ventricosa" to indicate that the order of pairing was uncertain or unknown.
(In some places on this site you will see this expressed as N. ventricosa <x> alata but this convention has been dropped.)
