This is my first decent pitcher (unfortunately poor picture quality) of an N. sumatrana grown in near full sun from seeds. I believe these were collected from wild plants by Robert (or Suska??). This my largest seedling with others smaller and not as advanced developed as this one. The leaves of this plant had more compact rounded leaves and at first I considered this to be a hybrid. But after subsequent pitchers appeared, the true characteristics of sumatrana came forth. I have this plant in a mesh pot high above to receive as much sun as possible. The leaves are an attractive reddish pink slightly mauve colored with very succulent firm texture. I am hoping that these will soon get large and perhaps redder as they age. Already several thicker tendrils on newer leaves are swelling up. N. sumatrana I believe is represented as a single clone from MT through tc. The beauty of all nepenthes species are represented in their slightly different forms and colorations as exhibited by nature. This plant has, what I feel, are very squat pitchers. I believe this seedling is just slightly younger than the reinwardtianas grown from seeds. I will probably plant out more seedlings into larger quarters and better light exposures (and of course, more fertilizing). Anyone else have had this species grow well for you from seeds? M
