The cultivation of nepenthes has exponentially increased tenfold in the past few years. More species have reached flowering size overall quicker than they have ever been cultivated. As newer species are collected (seed originals) and grown in captivity, we find ourselves exposed to newer hybrids (initially since finding both male and female in a new species world is near impossible) since pairings of any female to males are more prevalent than not. This thread is to ponder the idea and musings of a hybridist. We have now flowered N. boschiana and have made many beautiful hybrids with it (N. maxima x bosch, N. spathulata x bosch, etc.), N. lowii has flowered and we now see N. lowii x truncata, N. lowii x ventricosa, etc., and of course N. Trusmadiensis with hybrids such as N. maxima x TM, N. ventricosa x TM, N. truncata x TM, etc., N. merrilliana with its beautiful hybrids. What new species are out there on the verge of nearing maturity? N. jacquelineae, N. hamata, N. macrophylla, N. vogelii, N. _______.
N. jacquelineae x ventricosa red, N. macrophylla x truncata, N. veitchii x hamata, to name a few.
What new combinations do you suppose will make some grant hybrids?

N. jacquelineae x anything! x platychila, x hamata, x macrophylla, x truncata, x aristolochioides, x spectabilis...i think it will be one of the great hybridizers of our time. Ahh...all the fun that awaits us in the future!

At the current rate where most of us hobbyists have now begun to fertilize our plants, make them grow faster and yes, flower them it won't be long before hybrids with even newer species becomes so abundant that even a grower on a windowsill is making creative hybrids using very rare species.

man i sure hope so! we as a community are coming a far way too. From being orchid growers' poor cousins, to out doing the b******s in their own damn shows and starting to gain some real respectability, we as a whole are growing.

Keep your fingers crossed that my jacquelineae in spike is female. At this point it looks female. Also there's a male hookeriana in spike at the same time. With timing and luck there could be some jac x hooker seed. That could be interesting. I love hookeriana but can't grow it in my conditions. Maybe crossed on to the jac a colder tolerant version will come out of it.

Who cares whether you can grow Hookeriana, you can grow N. jacquelineae! Of the two I'd pick a Jac any day! Hookeriana's grow like a giant version of ampullaria.
The hybrid of the two sounds good! Try and ask Jeremiah if he still has any jac pollen, his flowered last year and he was seeking a female in bloom. At least keep in touch so if in the future this pairing becomes available it would be nice to make some pure N. jac seedlings of original seed material.

Wow! I wonder how much heat a jacquelineae hybrid could tolerate...
If it is female, you could cross it with more things, right? Imagine all the kinds ou could make...
Good luck.
