N. lowii has a lot of influence in many of the hybrids today. I would like to post some lowii simple and complex hybrids to show lowii in its genes. See if you can spot the characteristics in each. Not too evident is this N. spectabilis x (lowii x ventricosa) This is one to watch out for. N. lowii x ventricosa red These are from basal pups. and larger uppers And this complex: N. (stenophylla x lowii) x (Rokko x veitchii) An interesting fusion of mixed plate species. A a minute dash in this N. maxima x TM TM= Trusmadiensis (N. lowii x macrophylla) This is N. truncata x (stenophylla x lowii) Note the vivid striped peristome. This pitcher is also very woody. M

The Truncata x (stenophylla x lowii) is really nice!

Lowii hybrids are some of my favorites. Do you think N. (stenophylla x lowii) x (Rokko x veitchii) will ever show more lowii? it could be even nicer then!
Lowii x ventricosa "red" is great!

Perhaps crossing this back to a pure N. lowii will make a more pronounced lowii appearing hybrid. But when this complex seedling was smaller, it did have an appearance to a lowii lower pitcher. This had changed as N. veitchii took over the appearance, then the strong influence of N. stenophylla x lowii takes a strong push. I don't own a true N. stenophylla x lowii, but from I have seen (this is a naturally occurring hybrid in the wild) it takes a strong N. stenophylla appearance with N. lowii striped peristome and somewhat wide mouth. But up against N. stenophylla's basic shape, it is overpowered by stenophylla.

I'd like to see some cross backs to lowii male and female crosses.
