Mites!

Ugggh!
I now have my first mite infection that I need to deal with. Any recommendations for US mite killing products? I used Bayer Advance Garden Rose and Garden insect killer for aphids, but what do others use to control mites? I'm thinking of setting up a dunk tank, to set neps in for a few hours. But I don't think it'd be that practice / effective for the number of neps that should be treated.
Any suggestions?
Thanks, Nathan

Hi Nathan,
I use "Orthonex" spray. I've never dealt with mites but I have found it to be very effective on scale and whitefly. It is a systemic and has never done my plants any harm.

If you keep the foliages rather wet, this can help curb down on their populations. I have seen good results with a variety of mixed insecticides alternated after one another in weekly applications. Using a miticide can really make a difference. When used to kill mites, you feel as if the miticide had a fertilizer booster in it, as plants respond back with sudden bursts of growth and activity.
But the cost of miticides are the most pricey of all pesticides. Avid, Cinnamite and Aqual-Flo to name a few.

i recently saw what looked like a fast moving-slender scale bug on my neps (i think they might have been whitefly nymphs). i bought and used some neem oil spray- next day the scale bugs were dead or gone, but i noticed some tiny orange mites slowly crawling on the undersides of the leaves. i'm hoping the neem works on them too- if it doesn't i'll up the ante. anybody have experience with neem oil and mites?

Neem shouldn't affect mites. try the hot water spray and you may want to consider sharing the cost of a miticide with someone (or a lot of someones) to curb costs.
