The following specimens are the Paris herbarium types collected by Doctor Thorel (after whom the plant has been named by french botanist Henri lecomte in 1909) between 1862 and 1866.

They comprise a female plant with upper pitchers (isotype) and a male plant with lower pitchers (lectotype designated by Jebb and Cheek in their Skeletal revision of Nepenthes (1997):
